:Lanthanum carbonate hydrate
Description:
Lanthanum carbonate hydrate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula La2(CO3)3·xH2O, where "x" represents the number of water molecules associated with the lanthanum carbonate. It is a white, crystalline solid that is typically insoluble in water, although it can dissolve in acidic solutions. Lanthanum carbonate hydrate is primarily used in various applications, including as a phosphate binder in the treatment of hyperphosphatemia in patients with chronic kidney disease. The compound exhibits properties typical of lanthanide elements, such as high stability and a tendency to form coordination complexes. It is important to handle this substance with care, as lanthanum compounds can pose health risks if ingested or inhaled. In terms of safety, appropriate precautions should be taken to avoid exposure, and it should be stored in a cool, dry place away from incompatible materials. Overall, lanthanum carbonate hydrate is significant in both medicinal and industrial contexts, reflecting the unique chemistry of lanthanides.

CAS:
Lanthanum carbonate hydrate is a white, insoluble powder that is used as a binder in the production of tablets and capsules. It has been shown to bind to sevelamer and reduce the risk of renal calculi formation. Lanthanum carbonate hydrate has been found to decrease the solubility of calcium phosphate. The solubility decreases with increasing temperature, and is increased by the presence of ligands such as citric acid or ethanolamine. In addition, lanthanum carbonate hydrate binds to growth factors such as insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Lanthanum carbonate hydrate also shows luminescence properties when excited by light. This can be analysed using optical microscopy or photoluminescence spectroscopy.
Formula:La2(CO3)3•(H2O)xPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:457.84 g/mol
