Description:
Methyl orange is an azo dye commonly used as a pH indicator in titrations, particularly in the acidic range. Its chemical formula is C14H14N3NaO3S, and it appears as a yellow to red powder, depending on the pH of the solution. Methyl orange exhibits a distinct color change from red at a pH below 3.1 to yellow at a pH above 4.4, making it useful for determining the endpoint of acid-base reactions. The compound is stable under normal conditions but can degrade when exposed to strong oxidizing agents or extreme pH levels.
