It has been shown to inhibit glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK-3) and thereby reduce the production of proinflammatory cytokines in bowel disease. Indole-3-glyoxylamide also inhibits inflammatory bowel disease by inhibiting secretory phospholipase A2, which prevents the release of arachidonic acid from phospholipids. This synthesis is required for the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are involved in the inflammatory process.
