CAS 56-24-6
:Stannane, hydroxytrimethyl-
Description:
Stannane, hydroxytrimethyl-, also known as trimethylstannanol, is an organotin compound characterized by the presence of a tin atom bonded to three methyl groups and a hydroxyl group. This compound typically appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid and is known for its relatively low volatility and moderate solubility in organic solvents. The presence of the hydroxyl group imparts some polar characteristics, which can influence its reactivity and interactions with other substances. Stannane, hydroxytrimethyl- is primarily used in organic synthesis and as a reagent in various chemical reactions, particularly in the field of organometallic chemistry. It can act as a source of trimethylstannyl groups, which are useful in nucleophilic substitution reactions. However, organotin compounds, including this one, are subject to regulatory scrutiny due to potential toxicity and environmental concerns, necessitating careful handling and disposal. Overall, the unique structure of hydroxytrimethylstannane makes it a valuable compound in specialized chemical applications.

CAS:
Trimethyltin hydroxide is a neurotoxic organotin compound that is used as an antiseptic and disinfectant. Trimethyltin hydroxide has been shown to inhibit the production of chemoattractant protein in microglia cells, which are immune cells that are involved in the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Trimethyltin hydroxide has also been shown to affect neuronal death through its interaction with neurotrophic factors. This compound has been shown to be effective in vivo as well as in vitro, where it was demonstrated to kill prostate cancer cells. The trimethyltin ion may be formed intramolecularly by reacting with a thiostrepton molecule or by reacting with a malonic acid molecule. These x-ray diffraction data show that the trimethyltin ion binds to the DNA and inhibits transcriptional activity on both strands of DNA, inhibiting synthesis of RNA and protein.
Formula:C3H10OSnPurity:Min. 95 Area-%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:180.82 g/mol
