Benzene, 1-ethynyl-4-(methylthio)-

Description:
Benzene, 1-ethynyl-4-(methylthio)-, also known by its CAS number 56041-85-1, is an organic compound characterized by a benzene ring substituted with an ethynyl group and a methylthio group. The presence of the ethynyl group introduces a triple bond, which contributes to the compound's reactivity and potential applications in organic synthesis. The methylthio group, consisting of a sulfur atom bonded to a methyl group, can influence the compound's electronic properties and solubility. This compound is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a distinct aromatic odor. It is relatively stable under standard conditions but may undergo reactions typical of alkynes and aromatic compounds, such as electrophilic substitution and addition reactions. Its unique structure makes it of interest in various fields, including materials science and pharmaceuticals, where it may serve as an intermediate in the synthesis of more complex molecules. Safety precautions should be observed when handling this compound due to its potential toxicity and flammability.

  • 1-Ethynyl-4-(methylsulfanyl)benzene

    CAS:

1-Ethynyl-4-(methylsulfanyl)benzene (EMSB) is a novel organometallic compound that has been shown to be an inhibitor of cyclooxygenases. EMSB inhibits cox-1 and cox-2, which are enzymes involved in the inflammatory response. Inhibiting these enzymes may lead to the reduction of inflammation, which is implicated in many diseases such as cancer, arthritis, and cardiovascular disease. EMSB has also been shown to have antiinflammatory activity in a gravimetric analysis of human neutrophils. This molecule has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase and x-ray diffraction data show that this molecule binds with high affinity to cox-1 and cox-2.
