PCB 104

Description:
PCB 104, also known as 2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexachlorobiphenyl, is a member of the polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) family, which consists of organic compounds with multiple chlorine atoms attached to biphenyl. This compound is characterized by its high stability, low volatility, and resistance to degradation, which contribute to its persistence in the environment. PCB 104 is typically a colorless to light yellow solid and is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. Its chemical structure includes six chlorine atoms, which significantly influence its physical and chemical properties, including its hydrophobicity and lipophilicity. PCBs, including PCB 104, have been widely used in electrical equipment, heat exchangers, and as additives in various industrial applications due to their excellent thermal and chemical stability. However, they are known environmental pollutants and have been associated with adverse health effects, including endocrine disruption and potential carcinogenicity. Due to these concerns, the production and use of PCBs have been largely banned or restricted in many countries.

2,2',4,6,6'-Pentachlorobiphenyl is a chemical that is used in the manufacturing of polyurethane. It has been shown to induce apoptotic cell death in vitro and in vivo. 2,2',4,6,6'-Pentachlorobiphenyl has been shown to activate tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor-1 and have cytotoxic effects on cancer cells. It also inhibits the growth of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells and induces apoptosis by activating caspase 3 and 7. 2,2',4,6,6'-Pentachlorobiphenyl has been found to induce apoptosis in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells by inhibiting the activation of ERK1/2 and JNK pathways.
