2-Butenoic acid, 4-chloro-2-methyl-, (2E)-

Description:
2-Butenoic acid, 4-chloro-2-methyl-, (2E)-, also known by its CAS number 56905-13-6, is an organic compound characterized by its unsaturated carboxylic acid structure. It features a butenoic acid backbone with a double bond between the second and third carbon atoms, specifically in the E configuration, indicating the trans arrangement of substituents around the double bond. The presence of a chlorine atom at the fourth carbon and a methyl group at the second carbon contributes to its unique reactivity and properties. This compound is likely to exhibit typical characteristics of carboxylic acids, such as acidity and the ability to participate in various chemical reactions, including esterification and nucleophilic substitution. Its structural features may also influence its solubility in polar solvents and its behavior in biological systems. Due to its specific functional groups, it may have applications in organic synthesis and potentially in the development of pharmaceuticals or agrochemicals. However, detailed safety and handling information should be consulted due to the presence of chlorine, which can impart toxicity.

  • (2E)-4-Chloro-2-methylbut-2-enoic acid

    CAS:

2-Methylbutanoic acid is a chemical substance belonging to the group of organic compounds called carboxylic acids. It is an oxidized compound that reacts with hydrogen peroxide and ethylene in the presence of pyridine to produce 4-chloro-2-methylbut-2-enoic acid ethyl ester, which can then be hydrolyzed to produce 4-chloro-2-methylbutanoic acid ethyl ester. This reaction is catalyzed by lansoprazole. The industrial synthesis of 2-methylbutanoic acid ethyl ester from 2-methylbutanol and acetic acid has been successfully achieved on a large scale by reacting the former with chloromethyl peroxide.
