:Sulfamethazine
Description:
Sulfamethazine is a sulfonamide antibiotic that belongs to the class of sulfa drugs, which are synthetic antimicrobial agents. It is primarily used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of bacterial infections in livestock and poultry. The chemical structure of sulfamethazine features a sulfonamide group, which is responsible for its antibacterial activity, and it is characterized by its ability to inhibit bacterial growth by interfering with folic acid synthesis. This compound is typically administered orally and is known for its relatively low toxicity in animals. Sulfamethazine is soluble in water and exhibits stability under various conditions, although it can degrade in the presence of strong acids or bases. Its pharmacokinetics involve absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion, with a half-life that can vary depending on the species and dosage. While effective against a range of pathogens, the use of sulfamethazine has raised concerns regarding antibiotic resistance and potential residues in food products, leading to regulatory scrutiny in some regions.

CAS:
Sulfadimidine is a sulfonamide antibiotic that has been used in the treatment of infectious diseases, such as cholera and typhoid fever. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase and blocks bacterial synthesis of folic acid, thereby inhibiting DNA synthesis. Sulfadimidine is also known to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase and succinylcholine esterase, which may be due to its ability to form covalent bonds with amino groups. These properties have led to the use of sulfadimidine in analytical methods for determining matrix effects and rate constants. In addition, sulfadimidine has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of tetracycline resistance in bacteria by binding to the ribosomal protein L2. Sulfamethazine, another sulfonamide drug, has been found to inhibit the activity of human immunoglobulin G (IgG)
Formula:C12H14N4O2SColor and Shape:White PowderMolecular weight:278.33 g/mol
