5-Chloro-2-furancarbonitrile

Description:
5-Chloro-2-furancarbonitrile is an organic compound characterized by its furan ring structure, which is a five-membered aromatic ring containing oxygen. The presence of a chlorine atom at the 5-position and a cyano group (-C≡N) at the 2-position contributes to its unique chemical properties. This compound is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid or solid, depending on its physical state at room temperature. It is known for its reactivity, particularly in nucleophilic substitution reactions due to the electrophilic nature of the carbon in the cyano group. 5-Chloro-2-furancarbonitrile may exhibit moderate to high toxicity, necessitating careful handling and storage. It is used in various applications, including as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Additionally, its structural features may impart specific biological activities, making it of interest in medicinal chemistry. As with many organic compounds, it is important to consider its environmental impact and regulatory status when utilized in industrial processes.

    CAS:

5-Chlorofuran-2-carbonitrile is a potent A2A receptor antagonist. It also inhibits the binding of adenosine to its receptor, which may be due to the aminomethyl group at C5 and the presence of a nitrile in the 5 position. This compound has been shown to block adenosine-induced platelet aggregation in vivo and inhibit platelet aggregation induced by collagen in vitro. This drug binds to erythrocyte membranes and blocks adenosine uptake into cells, thereby inhibiting its effects. It has been shown that 5-chlorofuran-2-carbonitrile inhibits the development of atherosclerotic lesions in mice by blocking adenosine A2A receptors.
