CAS:4-(2-Acetoxyethyl)phenol is a phenolic compound that has been shown to have neuroprotective activity, inhibiting the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). 4-(2-Acetoxyethyl)phenol also inhibits the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in vitro and in vivo. This is due to its ability to inhibit DNA replication by binding to dna gyrase, which is an enzyme that maintains the integrity of bacterial DNA. 4-(2-Acetoxyethyl)phenol was also found to be potent inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, with IC50 values of 1.1 and 3.5 µM respectively. It has been used as an analytical reagent for the determination of trace amounts of acetate in organic solvents.
