CAS:3-Acetamidobenzoic acid is a metabolite of erythromycin. It is used as a contrast agent in radiocontrast studies, and has also been used to immobilize enzymes. 3-Acetamidobenzoic acid can be synthesized from erythromycin by methylation with metrizamide or methyl alcohol. The reaction rate of this compound is slow, which makes it an excellent candidate for immobilization on cation exchange resins. 3-Acetamidobenzoic acid has functional groups that are primary amines, making it a good substrate for the enzyme aminopeptidase. This compound also reacts with methylamine to form 3-methylaminobenzoic acid, which is a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme methylaminopeptidase.
