zymosan A from saccharomyces cerevisiae

Description:
Zymosan A is a complex polysaccharide derived from the cell wall of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It primarily consists of β-glucans, which are glucose polymers linked by β-glycosidic bonds, along with other components such as mannoproteins and chitin. Zymosan A is known for its immunomodulatory properties, acting as a potent activator of the immune system. It can stimulate various immune responses, including the activation of macrophages and the production of cytokines, making it a valuable tool in immunological research. The substance is often used in studies related to inflammation, innate immunity, and as a model for understanding yeast cell wall components. Zymosan A is typically characterized by its solubility in water and its ability to form gels under certain conditions. Its CAS number, 58856-93-2, is used for identification in chemical databases. Overall, zymosan A serves as an important biological reagent in both basic and applied research within the fields of microbiology and immunology.

  • Zymosan A (from Saccharomyces cerevisiae)

    CAS:

Zymosan is prepared from the cell walls of baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and consists of polysaccharide chains of various molecular weights, containing approximately 73% polysaccharide, 15% protein, 7% lipid and other inorganic components. When injected into animals, it induces inflammation and has been used for many years in inflammation and immunology research. The conditions activated include components of the complement system, prostaglandins and leukotrienes, platelet aggregation factor, and lysosomal enzymes. Zymosan preparations are often insoluble but can be made soluble for separation on DE cellulose or Sepharose to produce more active fractions.
