It is synthesized in two steps from 2-nitrobenzaldehyde and 4-aminophenylacetic acid. 2,3,4,5-Tetrahydrobenzo[f][1,4]thiazepine is used as a neuroprotective agent to treat neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease and cerebral infarction. The drug can be hydrolyzed to tetrahydrobenzo[f][1,4]thiazepin-2(3H)-one by alkaline phosphatase and the carboxylic acid moiety can be converted to an ester by reacting with an alcohol.
