CAS:Bromoacetonitrile is a metabolic disorder agent that inhibits the enzyme alkanoic acid. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to an increase in the concentration of 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA, which results in the accumulation of ketone bodies. Bromoacetonitrile has been used as a pharmacological agent in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and metabolic disorders. Bromoacetonitrile binds to a hydroxyl group on the enzyme and changes its shape, which prevents the formation of the product molecule. This causes an increase in reaction time and, consequently, an increase in the concentration of 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA. Bromoacetonitrile is also a genotoxic agent that is capable of causing mutations and DNA damage when it reacts with hydrogen fluoride (HF).
