Triose phosphate

Description:
Triose phosphate refers to a group of three-carbon sugar phosphates, primarily including glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P) and dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP). These compounds play crucial roles in cellular metabolism, particularly in glycolysis and the Calvin cycle. Triose phosphates are characterized by their phosphate group, which contributes to their reactivity and energy transfer capabilities. They are soluble in water and can readily participate in biochemical reactions due to their polar nature. The presence of a phosphate group makes them negatively charged at physiological pH, influencing their interactions with enzymes and other biomolecules. Triose phosphates are also intermediates in various metabolic pathways, facilitating the conversion of carbohydrates into energy. Their structural features include a backbone of three carbon atoms, with hydroxyl groups and a phosphate group attached, allowing for isomerization and further metabolic transformations. Overall, triose phosphates are essential for energy metabolism and biosynthetic processes in living organisms.

  • D-Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate, 10 mg/mL aqueous solution

    CAS:
D-Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate is a monosaccharide that is an intermediate in the pentose phosphate pathway. It has been shown to inhibit HIV replication by competitive inhibition of the viral enzyme reverse transcriptase, which requires ATP as a cofactor and D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate as a substrate. D-Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to dinucleotide phosphate, which is required for DNA synthesis. This compound has been used in x-ray diffraction data studies of proteins, including antibodies and enzymes. The α subunit of glycolytic enzymes can be successfully crystallized with sodium citrate and D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. This compound can also be used to prepare samples for protein analysis or model systems for transfer reactions.
