CAS:Bis(1,3-dichloroisopropyl) ether is a chemical that inhibits the production of formaldehyde by reacting with the terminal sulphonate group of an enzyme. Bis(1,3-dichloroisopropyl) ether is used in medicines as a nucleophile and as an electrophile. It has been used in the treatment of hyperkalemia and also to inhibit the production of formaldehyde from β-unsaturated aldehydes. It reacts with both chloride ions and activated aldehydes to form bis(chloroethoxy)methane which is then hydrolysed to diethyl ether.
