    <p>N-Methyl-DL-alanine is an amino acid that is also known as d-alanine. It is a precursor for the synthesis of other amino acids such as histidine, methionine, and arginine. N-Methyl-DL-alanine is found in the mitochondria of cells and plays a role in energy metabolism. It has been shown to be taken up by cells through an active transport process and can act as a competitive inhibitor of mitochondrial uptake. At physiological concentrations, N-methyl DL-alanine inhibits fatty acid oxidation by decreasing the activity of carnitine palmitoyltransferase I (CPT I) and enhancing lipid accumulation in the liver. N-Methyl DL-alanine has been shown to inhibit cycloleucin A production by acting as an inhibitor of fatty acid synthase (FAS).</p>
