CAS 601-75-2
:Ethylmalonic acid
Description:
Ethylmalonic acid, with the CAS number 601-75-2, is a dicarboxylic acid characterized by its two carboxyl functional groups (-COOH) and an ethyl group attached to the central carbon. It appears as a white crystalline solid and is soluble in water, which is typical for many dicarboxylic acids. Ethylmalonic acid is known for its role in various biochemical pathways, particularly in the metabolism of fatty acids and amino acids. It can act as an intermediate in the synthesis of other organic compounds. The compound has a relatively low melting point and can undergo typical reactions associated with carboxylic acids, such as esterification and decarboxylation. Additionally, it has been studied for its potential implications in certain metabolic disorders, particularly those related to mitochondrial function. Its structural formula allows for the formation of various derivatives, making it a versatile compound in organic synthesis and biochemical research.

CAS:
Ethylmalonic acid (EA) is a metabolic intermediate that is synthesized in the mitochondria. It is a product of the oxidation of malonyl-CoA and succinyl-CoA by the enzyme dehydrogenase. EA has been shown to be produced in vivo, and can be used as a marker for mitochondrial dysfunction. EA levels are increased in patients with metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus and obesity, as well as other diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), kidney diseases, liver diseases and anemia. EA levels can also be used to diagnose mitochondrial disorders such as mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome and Kearns-Sayre syndrome.
Formula:C5H8O4Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:132.11 g/mol
