1,3,5-Trimethyl-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene

Description:
1,3,5-Trimethyl-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene, commonly referred to as TMT, is a nitroaromatic compound characterized by its three methyl groups and three nitro groups attached to a benzene ring. This compound is known for its explosive properties, making it a subject of interest in both military and industrial applications. TMT is typically a yellow crystalline solid at room temperature, exhibiting high stability under normal conditions but can be sensitive to shock and heat. Its molecular structure contributes to its high density and energy content, which are critical factors in its performance as an explosive. TMT is relatively insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents, which can affect its handling and storage. Due to its potential environmental and health impacts, including toxicity and persistence, TMT is subject to regulatory scrutiny. Proper safety measures are essential when working with this compound to mitigate risks associated with its explosive nature and chemical reactivity.

    CAS:

1,3,5-Trimethyl-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TNT) is an organic compound that is used in explosives. TNT has been shown to be a potent anti-inflammatory agent. It inhibits the production of nitric oxide from arginase and reduces the expression of IL-1β and TNFα in vitro. TNT also inhibits the conformational changes of protein kinases required for their activation and prevents the phosphorylation of tyrosine residues on proteins by protein kinase C. TNT has also been found to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis by acting as a substrate for cyclooxygenase enzymes, which are involved in prostaglandin production. Nitro compounds such as TNT may be useful as therapeutic agents because they can inhibit inflammatory reactions without affecting normal tissue.
