CAS:3-Hydroxy-2-methylbenzoic acid is a chemical compound that can be found in urine. It has been shown to have antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and cytomegalovirus (CMV). This compound was synthesized by molecular modeling study, which showed that 3-hydroxy-2-methylbenzoic acid has the potential to inhibit viral replication by attacking the viral DNA. The structure of this molecule was also studied in detail using nuclear magnetic resonance and X-ray crystallography techniques. 3-Hydroxy-2-methylbenzoic acid is a weak base, which can react with an acidic solution to form a salt, such as chloride or sulfonate. This salt can then be used as an active ingredient in drugs to treat infections caused by viruses such as HSV and CMV.
