It has been shown to scavenge free radicals and inhibit lipid peroxidation in cells, which may be due to its ability to react with malondialdehyde to form 3,5-dihydroxyanthranilic acid. 3,5-Diiodoanthranilic acid has also been shown to have antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
