It is used in the synthesis of β-aminoesters, which are used as γ-secretase inhibitors for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. 2-Iodoaniline has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of protozoan parasites, such as Leishmania major and Trypanosoma cruzi, by blocking the conversion of pyruvate to oxaloacetate via enzymatic action.
