CAS:

5-Nitropyridine-3-sulfonamide (5NPS) is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that has high activity against a range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. 5NPS inhibits the synthesis of cell walls in bacteria by inhibiting the enzyme transpeptidase. This drug has shown anticoccidial effects against Eimeria tenella and also has an amide group which increases its water solubility. 5NPS is also active against resistant strains of coccidia and can be used to prevent coccidiosis in poultry, cattle, sheep, goats, and swine.
