It binds to the PPAR receptor and activates it by binding to the ligand binding domain, thereby increasing the expression of genes that are involved in lipid metabolism. GW-590735 has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in animal models of bowel disease, as well as beneficial effects on insulin sensitivity and energy homeostasis. GW-590735 has also been shown to activate PPARγ in cancer cells and reduce tumor growth.
