It is a compound of ethylene glycol and fatty acid esters that are obtained by reacting fatty acids with ethylene glycol. Ethylene glycol distearate is used as an emulsifier, surfactant, and thickener in a variety of detergent compositions. Ethylene glycol distearate has been demonstrated to exhibit antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi.
