    <p>Nitrilotris(methylene) triphosphonic acid (NTMTA) is an inhibitor of bacterial growth. It has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent and is used as a co-biocide in wastewater treatment. NTMTA binds to metal hydroxides, forming a complex that inhibits the growth of bacteria. NTMTA has also been shown to inhibit the production of hydrogen peroxide by inhibiting enzymes such as xanthine oxidase and myeloperoxidase. A Langmuir adsorption isotherm was used to measure the binding affinity between NTMTA and metal hydroxides and found that the inhibition of bacterial growth was due to protonation of the NTMTAs.
