Benzoin isopropyl ether

Description:
Benzoin isopropyl ether, with the CAS number 6652-28-4, is an organic compound that belongs to the class of ethers. It is characterized by its structure, which features a benzoin moiety linked to an isopropyl ether group. This compound typically appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid and is known for its pleasant aromatic odor. Benzoin isopropyl ether is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether but has limited solubility in water. It is primarily used as a photoinitiator in polymerization processes, particularly in the production of coatings, adhesives, and inks, due to its ability to generate free radicals upon exposure to UV light. Additionally, it exhibits stability under normal conditions but should be handled with care, as it can be reactive under certain circumstances. Safety precautions are essential when working with this compound, as it may pose health risks if inhaled or ingested. Overall, benzoin isopropyl ether is a valuable substance in various industrial applications, particularly in the field of photopolymerization.

  • rac-Benzoin isopropyl ether

    CAS:

Benzoin is a naturally occurring phenolic compound. Benzoin is used as a fragrance and flavoring agent in foods, beverages, sweets, toothpaste, mouthwash, and cigarettes. Benzoin is also used as a reagent to make other chemicals such as acetophenone. Rac-Benzoin isopropyl ether (BEN) is an organic chemical that has a hydroxyl group on the benzoin molecule. It can be used to detect radiation by initiating polymerization of polycarboxylic acid molecules. BEN has been shown to have kinetic properties that are dependent on the matrix effect and the concentration of cross-linking agent. This chemical has also been shown to be useful for the preparation of boron nitride films with high diphenyl ether content and high surface area with low density. The most common use for BEN is as a cross-linking agent in the production of fatty acid matrices for flow assays.
