Mono(3-carboxypropyl) phthalate

Description:
Mono(3-carboxypropyl) phthalate, with the CAS number 66851-46-5, is an organic compound that belongs to the class of phthalate esters. It is characterized by the presence of a phthalate backbone, which consists of a benzene ring with two carboxypropyl groups attached. This compound is typically used as a plasticizer, enhancing the flexibility and durability of polymers. Its chemical structure allows for good solubility in various organic solvents, making it useful in different industrial applications. Mono(3-carboxypropyl) phthalate is also of interest in environmental studies due to its potential effects on human health and ecosystems, as phthalates are known to be endocrine disruptors. The compound is generally considered to have low volatility and moderate stability under normal conditions, but it may undergo hydrolysis in the presence of water, leading to the release of carboxypropyl groups. Safety data sheets should be consulted for handling and exposure guidelines, as with any chemical substance.

    CAS:

Mono(3-carboxypropyl) phthalate (MCPP) is a 5-ht2c receptor agonist that is used to study the effects of 5-ht2c receptors on locomotor activity. It has been shown to have an effect on dopamine levels in vivo and in vitro assays. MCPP also has the ability to alter body weight and adiposity, but it is not clear whether this effect is due to its pharmacological properties or because it is a metabolite of other drugs. MCPP may interact with drugs that affect 5-ht2c receptors, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Symptoms associated with chronic exposure to MCPP include headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, depression, anxiety and hallucinations. Chronic exposure may also lead to seizures and coma.
