Geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate is a carotenoid that has been shown to have anticancer and anti-inflammatory properties. It is the precursor of phytoene, which is a precursor of lycopene. Geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate binds to DNA and inhibits the activity of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by binding to the enzyme DNA polymerase.
