It has been found to inhibit the phosphoinositide 3 kinase (PI3K) and the mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This drug is also a potent inhibitor of the kinase shp2, which regulates cell proliferation and apoptosis. 5-Bromo-2-chloro-3-nitropyridine inhibits tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. The mechanism of this inhibition may be due to 5-bromo-2,3 nitropyridine's ability to inhibit inflammatory genes such as NFκβ, IL1β, and IL6. 5 – Bromo - 2 - chloro - 3 - nitropyridine has also been shown to inhibit death pathways in cells by inhibiting proapoptotic protein Bax.</p>
