CAS:Deacetyl ketoconazole is a synthetic molecule that inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol and triglycerides by blocking the production of acetyl-CoA. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect, inhibiting the release of corticotropin-releasing hormone and reducing uptake of triglycerides from the bloodstream. Deacetyl ketoconazole is used for the treatment of depression, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. The natural form of ketoconazole is racemic, containing equal amounts of enantiomers (R and S). Deacetyl ketoconazole consists only of the S enantiomer, which has been shown to be more potent than racemic ketoconazole in animal models. This drug is synthesized by reacting piperazine with 3-hydroxybenzaldehyde in a two step process involving oxidation followed by reduction.
