CAS:Gamma-hexalactone is an organic compound that is synthesized by the asymmetric synthesis of gamma-butyrolactone. Gamma-hexalactone has been shown to have chemical stability and can be used as a solvent in analytical chemistry. Gamma-hexalactone has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, including E. coli, and yeasts, such as Candida albicans. The genotoxic effects of gamma-hexalactone are not well documented, but it has been shown to have some toxic effects on methyl anthranilate and chitosan quaternary ammonium.
