(-)-Eseroline fumarate

(-)-Eseroline fumarate (Eseroline) is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that has been shown to have antinociceptive and depressant effects in mice. It also inhibits mitochondrial functions, but the exact mechanism of action is unknown. (-)-Eseroline fumarate has been shown to have a pharmacodynamic effect on human serum, inhibiting the formation of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase and increasing the level of cholesterol. Eseroline has also been shown to inhibit the growth of human breast cancer cells in culture by disrupting mitochondrial function and inhibiting acetylcholine synthesis. The biological properties of (-)-Eseroline are similar to those of eseroline, with one exception: eseroline does not exhibit any cholinergic activity.
