CAS:Sodium chloro(fluoro)acetate (SCCA) is an organofluorine compound that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, such as silylmethyl and lactam. SCCA has shown to be a selective inhibitor of muscle acetylcholine receptors and is used to study the role of these receptors in muscle contraction. The selectivity of SCCA for brain acetylcholine receptors has also been studied. This agent is effective against tumors and can be used for tumor treatment or therapy. SCCA can be polymerized with dimethylformamide to form polymeric materials that are useful for semiconductor applications. SCCA has been found to have sedative effects and is sometimes used as a hypnotic drug. It also has been found to induce sleep in animals, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the central nervous system’s arousal centers.
