This drug has been shown to have a potent and selective antagonistic effect in vitro on human leukocytes and in vivo animal models. ZK316 also has an inhibitory effect on vascular smooth muscle cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of prolyl hydroxylase and cyclooxygenase.
