It has been shown to be an excellent wetting agent for x-ray crystal structures of sodium dodecyl sulfate. Triisopropylbenzene has also been shown to be a good cationic polymerization activator for cationic surfactants. This compound has a molecular weight of 216.28 g/mol, with an acidic pH value of 5.8 and a melting point of 29 °C. 1,3,5-Triisopropylbenzene is soluble in methanol and ethanol. The molecule has three different conformations which can be seen by analyzing 1H NMR spectroscopy data. Activation energies were calculated using DFT computational chemistry methods and found to have values in the range of -14 to -8 kcal mol−1
