:Benzenemethanesulfonamide, 4-chloro-
Description:
Benzenemethanesulfonamide, 4-chloro- is an organic compound characterized by the presence of a benzene ring substituted with a chloromethyl group and a sulfonamide functional group. This compound typically exhibits a white to off-white crystalline appearance and is soluble in polar solvents such as water and alcohols, while being less soluble in non-polar solvents. The sulfonamide group contributes to its potential as a pharmaceutical intermediate, as sulfonamides are known for their antibacterial properties. The presence of the chloro substituent can influence the compound's reactivity and biological activity, making it of interest in medicinal chemistry. Additionally, the compound may exhibit moderate toxicity, necessitating careful handling and storage. Its applications may extend to various fields, including agrochemicals and materials science, where its unique chemical properties can be utilized. As with any chemical substance, proper safety protocols should be followed when working with benzenemethanesulfonamide, 4-chloro- to mitigate any health risks associated with exposure.

CAS:
4-Chlorobenzylsulfonamide is a histamine receptor antagonist that blocks the action of histamine on the H3 receptor. It has been shown to antagonize the binding of histamine to its receptors in bioassays, and has been found to be a competitive antagonist at the H3 receptor. 4-Chlorobenzylsulfonamide has similar affinity for the h3 receptor as does 4-chlorophenylbiguanide and 4-chloro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenylethylbiguanide. This drug also inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells in vitro.
Formula:C7H8ClNO2SPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:205.66 g/mol
