:Aflatoxin B2
Description:
Aflatoxin B2 is a naturally occurring mycotoxin produced by certain molds, particularly Aspergillus species, such as Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. It is classified as a potent carcinogen and is known for its toxic effects on both humans and animals. Aflatoxin B2 is a secondary metabolite that primarily contaminates agricultural products, especially grains, nuts, and seeds, under conditions of high humidity and temperature. The chemical structure of Aflatoxin B2 includes a fused bicyclic lactone ring system, contributing to its biological activity. It is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water. Due to its toxicity, Aflatoxin B2 is subject to strict regulatory limits in food and feed products. Exposure to this compound can lead to serious health issues, including liver damage and increased cancer risk. Monitoring and controlling aflatoxin levels in food supplies are critical for public health safety.

CAS:Controlled Product
Aflatoxin B2 is a potent hepatocarcinogen and immunosuppressant that inhibits energy metabolism. Aflatoxin B2 is found in the fungus Aspergillus flavus, which contaminates food sources such as peanuts, corn, and cottonseed. Aflatoxin B2 has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential and induce liver lesions in vivo. Aflatoxin B2 also induces dopamine release from the striatum of mice, leading to abnormal behavior. This toxin binds to proteins in the mitochondria, creating a matrix effect that inhibits ATP production. The binding of this toxin to cellular proteins inhibits enzyme activity by altering their conformation and preventing them from interacting with their substrates or cofactors.
Formula:C17H14O6Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:314.29 g/mol
