2-(4-Fluorophenyl)-6-methylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-3-carbaldehyde (FMP) is a compound that inhibits the synthesis of proteins in the human body. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. FMP is synthesized from 2-(4-fluorophenyl)imidazo[1,2-a]pyridinium ion (FPI) by reacting it with methylene malononitrile in the presence of a base. This reaction occurs by a nucleophilic attack from the hydroxy group of FPI on the methylene carbon atom of methylene malononitrile, giving rise to an imine nitrogen and hydroxyl group in FMP.
