Phentolamine hydrochloride

Description:
Phentolamine hydrochloride is a non-selective alpha-adrenergic antagonist primarily used in the treatment of hypertension and to manage pheochromocytoma, a tumor of the adrenal gland that secretes catecholamines. It is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and has a pH range of 4.5 to 6.5 in solution. The compound acts by blocking alpha-1 and alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, leading to vasodilation and a decrease in blood pressure. Its chemical formula is C17H20N2•HCl, and it has a molecular weight of approximately 288.82 g/mol. Phentolamine is often administered via injection and can also be used in dental procedures to reverse the effects of local anesthetics.
