Description:
Titanium, with the chemical symbol Ti and CAS number 7440-32-6, is a transition metal known for its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. It has a silvery-gray appearance and is relatively low in density compared to other metals, making it an ideal choice for aerospace, automotive, and medical applications. Titanium exhibits excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion, particularly in harsh environments, due to the formation of a protective oxide layer on its surface. It has a high melting point and is capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, which contributes to its utility in high-performance applications. Titanium is also non-toxic and is widely used in medical implants and prosthetics. The metal can exist in several allotropes, with the most stable being the hexagonal close-packed (hcp) structure at lower temperatures and the body-centered cubic (bcc) structure at higher temperatures.
