Description:
Cerium is a silvery-white, ductile metal that belongs to the lanthanide series of the periodic table, with the atomic number 58 and the CAS number 7440-45-1. It is known for its relatively high melting point and is one of the most abundant rare earth elements. Cerium exhibits a variety of oxidation states, most commonly +3 and +4, which contribute to its diverse chemical behavior. It readily oxidizes in air, forming a protective oxide layer, and can react with water at elevated temperatures.
