Gallium

Description:
Gallium is a soft, silvery-blue metal that is classified as a post-transition metal in group 13 of the periodic table. It has an atomic number of 31 and is known for its unique properties, including a low melting point of approximately 29.76 °C (85.57 °F), which allows it to melt in the palm of a hand. Gallium does not crystallize in a conventional manner; instead, it has an unusual structure that can exist in both a solid and liquid state at room temperature. It is primarily used in electronics, particularly in the production of semiconductors and LEDs, due to its ability to form alloys with other metals and its excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. Gallium is also utilized in solar panels and in the medical field for certain imaging techniques. It is non-toxic and does not pose significant health risks, although it can cause skin irritation upon contact. Gallium's reactivity is moderate; it can react with acids and alkalis, forming gallium salts.
