:4,4-Dimethylzymosterol
Description:
4,4-Dimethylzymosterol is a sterol compound that plays a significant role in the biosynthesis of sterols and is often studied in the context of cholesterol metabolism. It is characterized by its unique structure, which includes a steroid nucleus with two methyl groups at the 4-position, contributing to its distinct physical and chemical properties. This compound is typically found in various biological systems, particularly in fungi and plants, where it serves as a precursor in the synthesis of more complex sterols. 4,4-Dimethylzymosterol is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents, reflecting its lipophilic nature. Its presence is important in the study of lipid metabolism and the development of pharmaceuticals targeting cholesterol-related disorders. Additionally, it may exhibit biological activities that warrant further investigation, particularly in relation to its effects on cell membranes and signaling pathways. Overall, 4,4-Dimethylzymosterol is a valuable compound in both biochemical research and potential therapeutic applications.

CAS:Controlled Product14-Norlanosterol is a cholesterol biosynthesis inhibitor that has shown to be effective in reducing serum cholesterol levels. The enzyme that this drug inhibits is the cholesterol acyltransferase (CAT). The CAT enzyme transfers an acyl group from acetyl coenzyme A to the 3-hydroxy group of cholesterol, producing 14-norlanosterol. This process is important for the production of bile acids and for the synthesis of steroid hormones, such as testosterone. 14-Norlanosterol has been shown to inhibit the activity of CAT by binding to its active site, preventing formation of a ternary complex with acetyl coenzyme A and cholesterol. This inhibition prevents the transfer of an acyl group from acetyl coenzyme A to cholesterol, which leads to lower serum cholesterol levels. 14-Norlanosterol also inhibits other enzymes involved in sterol synthesis, including methyltransferase, epoxidase activity, and demethylation.Formula:C29H48OPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:412.7 g/mol
