3-Cyclohexylbut-2-enoic acid is a molecule that has been synthesized by the reaction of 3-cyclohexylbutyric acid with sodium ethoxide in ethanol. This chemical has a number of applications, including as an activating agent for amines and polyvinylpyrrolidone, a nasal decongestant, and an antisolvent. 3-Cyclohexylbut-2-enoic acid has also been used to synthesize other chemicals such as pharmaceuticals. The synthesis method can be improved by using the Suzuki coupling reaction. Humans are exposed to this chemical when they inhale it or come into contact with it on the skin, but it is not toxic at these levels.
