CAS 75-12-7
:Formamide
Description:
Formamide, with the CAS number 75-12-7, is a simple amide derived from formic acid. It is a colorless, viscous liquid that is hygroscopic and has a faint odor. Formamide is highly polar due to the presence of both a carbonyl group and an amine group, which allows it to engage in strong hydrogen bonding. This property makes it an excellent solvent for a variety of polar and ionic compounds. Formamide has a relatively high boiling point compared to other amides, which can be attributed to its ability to form extensive hydrogen bonds. It is miscible with water and many organic solvents, making it versatile in chemical applications. In terms of reactivity, formamide can undergo hydrolysis to produce formic acid and ammonia, and it can also participate in various organic reactions, including amidation and condensation reactions. Due to its properties, formamide is utilized in the production of pharmaceuticals, as a solvent in chemical synthesis, and in the manufacture of plastics and resins. However, it is important to handle formamide with care, as it can be toxic and poses health risks upon exposure.

CAS:Controlled Product
Applications Formamide is a compound that is used in biochemistry to prevent RNA samples from degradation due to RNAses. Formamide is also used as a plasticizer to prepare thermoplastic starch (TPS), a special type of starch that can be mixed with other synthetic polymers because of its unique ability to “flow”.
References Chomczynski, P.: Nuc. CAS:Controlled Product
Formamide is a colorless, volatile chemical compound that is most commonly used in the laboratory for the preparation of dna duplexes. It can also be used to treat bowel disease and HIV infection. It is not active against viruses or bacteria but has been shown to bind to toll-like receptors on cells. Formamide is an organic substance that exists as a gas at room temperature and pressure. Formaldehyde reacts with water in the presence of sodium carbonate to form formamide, which is soluble in water. Formamide has been used as a reaction solution for surface methodology experiments because it evaporates quickly and leaves no residue on surfaces. Formamide has been shown to inhibit epidermal growth factor (EGF) activity by binding to the EGF receptor protein and preventing its activation. This inhibition leads to decreased cell proliferation, reduced protein synthesis, and inhibition of DNA replication.
Formula:CH3NOPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:Colorless PowderMolecular weight:45.04 g/mol
