5-Amino-biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid is a peptidomimetic that inhibits the farnesylation of proteins. 5-Amino-biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid is a low nanomolar inhibitor of the growth of cultured human muscle cells, and has been shown to inhibit the production of tumor necrosis factor alpha and interleukin 1 beta by these cells. 5-Amino-biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid also inhibits the proliferation of various cancer cell lines in vitro and in vivo. The compound's mechanism of action is thought to be through its ability to inhibit protein farnesylation, which may lead to apoptosis.
