2,4-Dichloromandelic acid

Description:
2,4-Dichloromandelic acid is an organic compound characterized by its structure, which features two chlorine atoms substituted at the 2 and 4 positions of the mandelic acid framework. This compound is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water and organic solvents, reflecting its polar nature due to the presence of carboxylic acid and hydroxyl functional groups. It exhibits acidic properties, typical of carboxylic acids, and can participate in various chemical reactions, including esterification and amidation. The presence of chlorine substituents can influence its reactivity and biological activity, making it of interest in pharmaceutical and agrochemical research. Additionally, 2,4-Dichloromandelic acid can serve as an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemical compounds. Its unique properties and reactivity profile make it a valuable substance in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. Safety data indicates that, like many chlorinated compounds, it should be handled with care to avoid potential health hazards.

  • 2-(2,4-Dichlorophenyl)-2-hydroxyacetic acid

    CAS:

2-(2,4-Dichlorophenyl)-2-hydroxyacetic acid (dichlophos) is a metabolite of the herbicide 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. It is spontaneously generated in the cytosol and eliminated in the urine as its conjugate with glutathione. Dichlophos has been shown to inhibit the activity of glutathione transferase, which may be due to its ability to demethylate phospholipids and glutathione. Dichlophos has also been found to have an inhibitory effect on alkenyl and ketone metabolism, which may be due to its ability to block hydrogen phosphate synthesis. This compound has been shown to be metabolized by uronic acid oxidase in rats and humans, leading to the production of 2-keto-gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide.
