CAS:

4-(Chloromethyl)-3-methoxy-5-methyl-1,2-oxazole (CGS 19755) is a neuroprotective agent that binds to the glutamate receptor, inhibiting glutamate binding. It also inhibits the production of intracellular cGMP, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the binding of G protein coupled receptors. CGS 19755 has been shown to have neuroprotective properties in vivo and expressed in vitro. It has high affinity for both alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) and N -methyl--aspartic acid (NMDA) receptors.
CGS 19755 has been shown to be more potent than other glutamate antagonists such as LY 273558 in animal tests for neuroprotection.
