This receptor is involved in the regulation of red blood cell production and has been shown to be important for its binding to extracellular matrix proteins. 3-(Methylsulfanyl)imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine-1-carboxylic acid has also been shown to inhibit ligand binding to the erythropoietin receptor, by blocking the erythropoietin binding site. This can be used as a research tool or pharmacological agent.</p>
